KIMS Hospitals Introduces Advanced TrueBeam Technology to Enhance Precision in Cancer Care
The technology also supports Deep Inspiration Breath Hold, a technique used in radiation therapy for selected breast cancer patients.
KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, has introduced Advanced TrueBeam Technology integrated with Brainlab Dynamic Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), strengthening its radiation oncology capabilities.
The system combines advanced radiation delivery with real-time patient monitoring to improve treatment precision and help minimise radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
Dr B. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of KIMS Group of Hospitals, inaugurated the new facilities and highlighted the hospital’s commitment to bringing advanced medical technologies to patients in Telangana and neighbouring regions, adding that modern treatment systems and experienced medical professionals could support access to quality cancer care.
According to Dr T. Pratap Reddy, Head of Radiation Oncology at KIMS Hospitals, the integration of Brainlab Dynamic SGRT with the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator represents an advancement in the hospital’s radiation therapy services.
The system incorporates real-time monitoring of patient movements, six-dimensional (6D) positioning corrections, and respiratory motion management. These capabilities help clinical teams maintain accurate patient positioning and account for movement during radiation delivery.
Advanced TrueBeam Technology also supports multiple radiation therapy techniques, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SRS/SBRT).
These approaches enable clinicians to shape and direct radiation according to treatment requirements, helping target tumours while limiting exposure to nearby healthy tissues.
The integrated Brainlab Dynamic SGRT system uses non-contact monitoring to track the patient’s body surface throughout treatment.
When combined with positioning corrections and respiratory motion management, it helps the clinical team identify movement and maintain treatment accuracy without relying solely on physical markers.
The technology also supports Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH), a technique used in radiation therapy for selected breast cancer patients.
By delivering radiation while a patient holds a deep breath, clinicians can increase the distance between the heart and the treatment area, potentially reducing radiation exposure to the heart.
The introduction of Advanced TrueBeam Technology adds to KIMS Hospitals’ investments in specialised medical infrastructure.
The group has also announced plans to bring Stryker’s Mako 4 robotic technology to its Bengaluru facility and has installed a Wipro GE Allia 540 Hybrid Cathlab at KIMS Kingsway Hospitals in Nagpur, expanding its capabilities across orthopaedic and vascular care.
