PM Modi Announces Major Healthcare Initiatives, to Set up 75,000 health camps at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

These facilities already provide basic diagnostics, preventive services, and maternal-child health support and will be central to the rollout of the health camps.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently announced major healthcare initiatives to boost women's & children's healthcare services.

As per reports, PM Modi is set to launch the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan on 17 September 2025, his 75th birthday.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said in a post on X, “This initiative aims to strengthen healthcare services for women and children across India, ensuring better access, quality care, and awareness.”

He confirmed that 75,000 health camps will be set up at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Community Health Centres, and other healthcare facilities.

The Abhiyaan will run from 17 September to 2 October, alongside Poshan Maah, which is observed every year at Anganwadi centres.

Activities during Poshan Maah include growth monitoring, nutrition counselling, and health awareness drives for mothers and children.

India continues to struggle with maternal and child health issues. Over half of women of reproductive age suffer from anaemia, while malnutrition remains a major cause of poor health and stunted development among children.

The upcoming health camps are expected to provide services such as screening, referrals, and nutrition guidance that directly respond to these issues.

The network of over 1.7 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, formerly Health and Wellness Centres, will play a key role. These facilities already provide basic diagnostics, preventive services, and maternal-child health support, and will be central to the rollout of the health camps.

Nadda also called for wider participation, saying, “I appeal to all private hospitals and healthcare stakeholders to come forward and be an integral part of this Jan Bhagidaari Abhiyaan.” His statement highlights the government’s plan to involve both public and private sectors in expanding access to essential health services.

While the announcement provides broad targets, details on the range of services to be offered, staffing arrangements, and coordination with state health systems are still awaited.

Public health experts emphasise that linking temporary health camps to regular primary and secondary care is crucial to ensure lasting benefits.
