OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Health, a Digital Front Door for Personalized Healthcare

The Health platform allows users to integrate medical records from US healthcare providers through a partnership with b.well, along with data from wellness applications, including Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal.

OpenAI has announced the launch of its new ChatGPT Health platform, aimed at enabling users to navigate the healthcare system and seek answers for everyday health and wellness questions.

As per the company, more than 230 million users currently ask medical or health-related questions on ChatGPT each week.

The new ChatGPT platform seeks to place these health discussions into a dedicated space to ensure that sensitive context does not overlap with unrelated use.

The Health platform is designed to retain user preferences, health context, and conversation history into an independent memory system, enabling users to view or delete this data through dedicated controls.

The platform also includes health-specific safeguards, such as encryption and system isolation, to keep health conversations compartmentalized and protected.

Key Features

The platform allows users to integrate medical records from U.S. healthcare providers through a partnership with b.well, a leading secure health data network, to ensure that users maintain explicit control over the shared data, along with data from wellness applications, including Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal.

By leveraging this information, ChatGPT Health can review medical history, recent test results, and reported symptoms to help users prepare structured questions for upcoming medical appointments.

The platform also offers general lab test explanations and nutrition-related information, with integrations such as MyFitnessPal for dietary insights and Weight Watchers for meal guidance, including for individuals using GLP-1 medications.

In addition, OpenAI has partnered with Function to combine large-scale lab data with agent-based AI systems to support more data-driven personal health navigation.

The company stated that ChatGPT Health is not intended for diagnosis or medical treatment, but to support healthcare navigation.

The platform was built on inputs from 260 physicians across 60 countries and medical specialties over two years, who reviewed model outputs to help ensure health information is presented appropriately and safety considerations are addressed.

Reportedly, the Health system was evaluated by HealthBench based on clinician-developed rubrics considering factors such as safety, clarity, appropriateness of care escalation, and relevance to individual context.

Initially, the platform will be limited group of users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans in regions outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.
