Function Health Secures $298M, Rolls Out AI Medical Intelligence

Function Health, a preventive health startup offering lab testing and full-body scans, raised $298 million in a Series B round led by Redpoint Ventures, boosting its valuation to $2.5 billion.

The oversubscribed round included investors such as a16z, Nat Friedman, Daniel Gross's NFDG, Matt Damon, Magic Johnson, and Zac Efron.

Launched in 2023, Function Health provides a membership platform with access to over 160 biomarker tests, covering heart function, hormones, thyroid, cancer signals, immunity, aging factors, and autoimmunity. Its testing volume is reportedly six times higher than typical primary care providers. In partnership with Grail, members can access the Galleri multi-cancer early detection test.

Earlier this year, Function Health acquired Ezra to integrate AI-powered full-body scans, merging lab testing and medical imaging into a single preventive health solution. The company also reduced its membership price to $365 annually from $499. Since mid-2023, the platform has completed over 50 million lab tests.

Alongside funding, Function Health introduced its Medical Intelligence Lab, a generative AI model that synthesizes lab results, imaging, wearable data, IoT devices, and medical records to deliver personalized insights. The AI model identifies early warning signals, updates guidance based on the latest research, and translates data into actionable steps for members.

Members can now interact with an AI chatbot for personalized health guidance and receive protocols tailored to their lab results and visit history. Function Health co-founder and Chief Medical Scientist Dr. Dan Sodickson emphasized that the system “connects important signals—from blood to imaging to wearables—creating a continuously learning model of your health.”

CEO Jonathan Swerdlin highlighted the startup’s vision of offering a 360-degree view of health. “It’s really important that somebody fully understands what's happening in their body continuously throughout their lifetime so they can be ahead of any issues,” he said.

Investors see Function Health as setting a new benchmark in preventive care. Daisy Wolf, board member and Investing Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, noted, “Function is building the intelligence layer for human health, turning years of fragmented health information into clarity and action.”
