Mumbai’s S.L. Raheja Hospital Unveils Advanced Diagnostics & Orthorobo Care Launch
The relaunch of the Histopathology Department and the introduction of orthorobo care through a robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery system aim at strengthening clinical precision and patient outcomes.
S.L. Raheja Hospital has announced the launch of enhanced diagnostics and orthorobo care as part of its 45-year milestone, introducing an upgraded histopathology department and robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery care to improve diagnostic accuracy and surgical outcomes.
At the core of the announcement is the relaunch of the Histopathology Department, originally founded by the late Dr Anita Borges. The upgraded facility builds on its legacy as a Centre of Excellence, having analysed over 2,20,000 samples since 2003.
It continues to serve complex oncology diagnostics, receiving cases from across India and neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal.
The department handles a wide spectrum of cancers, including lymphoma, breast, lung, gastrointestinal, and gynaecological malignancies, and is now equipped with improved quality control systems and advanced diagnostic protocols to enable faster and more reliable reporting.
Dr Kunal Punamiya, CEO, S.L. Raheja Hospital, Mahim, a Fortis Associate, said, “Over 45years into our journey of delivering exceptional healthcare, these two launches underscore our commitment to enhancing patient experiences across the continuum of care: from diagnosis to treatment. The upgraded Histopathology Department will enable clinicians to make faster, more informed decisions, while our robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery system will bring greater precision to surgical procedures. Through these advancements, we aim to deliver improved clinical outcomes and enhanced patient experiences.”
In parallel, the hospital has introduced orthorobo care through a robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery system designed to support surgeons in joint replacement procedures.
Dr Lalit Panchal, Senior Consultant, Orthopaedic Surgery, S.L. Raheja Hospital, said, “Robotic-assisted surgery acts as an intelligent support to the surgeon, helping improve precision and surgical outcomes. It allows for better planning and execution of procedures. The system helps deliver safer, less invasive surgeries with natural results and faster recovery.”
The technology is expected to enhance implant positioning, improve alignment, reduce surgical trauma, and enable quicker recovery for patients undergoing procedures such as Unilateral Knee Replacement (UKR) and Total Hip Replacement (THR).
Established as a trusted healthcare provider in Mumbai, the hospital operates as a Fortis associate under Fortis Healthcare, which is part of the global network of IHH Healthcare.
IHH Healthcare is one of the world’s leading integrated healthcare providers, managing a wide network of hospitals across Asia and beyond, with a strong emphasis on innovation, value-based care, and technology-driven services.
