MP Cabinet Approves INR 776 Cr to Upgrade 73 Health Facilities, Expand Hospital Capacity Across the State

The state government said the comprehensive infrastructure expansion is designed to improve healthcare accessibility while strengthening the overall public health system.
The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved an INR 776.13 Cr investment to upgrade 73 healthcare institutions, create over 1,600 regular healthcare posts, and expand hospital capacity to improve access to quality medical services, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions.
Under the Cabinet-approved proposal, 29 sub-health centres will be upgraded into six-bed Primary Health Centres, enabling them to provide a wider range of healthcare services.
Nineteen existing PHCs will be converted into Community Health Centres with enhanced infrastructure and expanded clinical capabilities.
In addition, 18 Community Health Centres will be upgraded into 50-bed civil hospitals, while seven health institutions will be developed into 100-bed hospitals to increase inpatient care capacity.
The state government said the comprehensive infrastructure expansion is designed to improve healthcare accessibility while strengthening the overall public health system.
By increasing the number of functional healthcare facilities at different levels, the initiative aims to reduce patient referrals and ease the burden on overcrowded hospitals.
To support the upgraded facilities, the MP Cabinet has approved the creation of 1,600 regular positions and 71 contractual posts across the healthcare system.
The government has also sanctioned the engagement of 560 personnel through outsourcing agencies to ensure uninterrupted operations at the newly upgraded institutions.
The Council of Ministers has further approved an annual expenditure of INR 122.83 Cr for operating and maintaining these healthcare facilities.
The recurring allocation is expected to support staffing, service delivery and day-to-day functioning as the upgraded institutions become operational.
Officials said the expanded network of hospitals and healthcare centres will benefit not only local communities but also residents from neighbouring districts who currently travel long distances to access specialised medical services.
The increased bed capacity, improved infrastructure and larger workforce are expected to shorten waiting times and enhance the quality of patient care across the state.
