The CM had also launched the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) 2.0 to provide cashless treatment and strengthen public healthcare delivery.

The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, has announced plans to develop an INR 700 crore cancer superspeciality hospital, aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

The new facility is being built in Zemabawk with financial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Once operational, the facility is expected to provide advanced cancer treatment within the state while reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state.

Speaking on the new initiative, the CM said, “Once completed, this hospital will be a lifeline for the people of Mizoram. It will reduce the need to travel outside the state for expensive cancer treatment.”

The announcement forms part of the government's broader efforts to upgrade the healthcare facilities and infrastructure across the state.

Highlighting recent government healthcare initiatives, CM Lalduhoma noted that Aizawl Civil Hospital is currently undergoing an upgrade and that a trauma centre has already been made operational.

He added that plans are also underway to introduce advanced medical facilities, including cardiac surgery, kidney transplants, and In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

The CM further noted that Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMCH) has been strengthened. At the same time, the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS) at Zemabawk is being expanded into a 100-bed facility, which is expected to be inaugurated soon.

Providing further updates on ongoing infrastructure development, he stated that a 50-bed hospital is being developed at Kulikawn in Aizawl with an estimated cost of INR 34.75 crore, while INR 19.72 crore has been allocated for a 100-bed psychiatry hospital.

In a recent development, the CM had also launched the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) 2.0 to provide cashless treatment and strengthen public healthcare delivery.

Under the scheme, the beneficiaries are expected to receive health coverage up to INR 5 lakh with a premium of INR 2,500, and it is scheduled to be implemented from 1st April 2026.
