The new technology aims to improve diagnostic imaging while reducing dependence on standard electrocardiograms during cardiac assessments

Madha Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) has announced the installation of the Acuson Origin AI-powered cardiac ultrasound system developed by global medtech company Siemens Healthineers.

The new installation reportedly marks the first deployment of this advanced technology at a medical institution in South India.

The new technology aims to improve diagnostic imaging while reducing dependence on standard electrocardiograms during cardiac assessments, which is expected to enhance patient comfort and clinical workflow.

Highlighting the significance of the new facility, Dr. J. Raghav, Managing Director, Madha Medical College, said, “Our core mission is to deliver world‑class healthcare that is accessible and affordable for everyone. This advanced AI‑enabled technology further strengthens our commitment, empowering our team to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions with unmatched precision and speed. Our students will have the opportunity to learn about and experience next-generation healthcare technology that aims to improve treatment outcomes for patients. We are grateful for the support received from stakeholders in making this state-of-the-art system available to our patients.”

Key System Capabilities

The Acuson Origin system leverages artificial intelligence to support cardiac ultrasound imaging for both transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) procedures.

The platform offers over 5,600 AI-powered measurements, drawing on a database of approximately two billion medical images across multiple imaging modalities.

Further, its 2D HeartAI automatically generates estimates of left ventricular volumes and global longitudinal strain (GLS) for both contrast-enhanced and non-contrast-enhanced acquisitions, while its 4D HeartAI, available for supporting both 3D transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) acquisitions, has demonstrated improved accuracy in alignment with assessments made by experienced clinicians.

These AI-enabled features are designed to standardise measurements, reduce variability, and support clinicians in conducting comprehensive cardiac assessments and improve consistency.

Commenting on the new launch, Sanjay David, Head of Ultrasound – Zone ASEAN & India at Siemens Healthcare Private Limited, said, “At Siemens Healthineers, we are on a journey to positively impact lives through our innovative healthcare solutions. The introduction of the Acuson Origin at Madha Medical College marks a significant step forward in empowering both patients and clinicians. By enhancing the diagnosis and management of complex cardiac conditions, this technology helps elevate the standard of cardiovascular care across South India.”
