Karnataka Taps AI-Based Monitoring to Improve Dialysis Care Delivery

The system tracks a total of 28 indicators, covering patient care, infection control, hygiene, emergency preparedness, staff responsiveness and operational efficiency.

The Karnataka government has introduced an AI-powered smart monitoring system at KC General Hospital in Bengaluru to strengthen dialysis care delivery, improve patient safety and bring greater transparency and consistency to public health services under the PPP framework.

Dialysis services in the state have already been expanding under a Public-Private Partnership model, with private players supporting infrastructure and service delivery. This model has helped scale access, especially for patients with chronic kidney disease who require regular, closely monitored treatment.

The newly introduced platform, developed by NephroPlus, a nationwide network of dialysis care centres, headquartered in Telangana, enables continuous monitoring of critical dialysis parameters such as blood pressure, fluid removal and electrolyte balance.

Unlike traditional periodic audits, the system offers round-the-clock oversight, allowing healthcare providers to detect irregularities early and intervene promptly.

Officials have indicated that the platform currently operates with an accuracy range of 85 to 95 per cent, with further improvements underway.

Beyond clinical metrics, the system tracks a total of 28 indicators, covering patient care, infection control, hygiene, emergency preparedness, staff responsiveness and operational efficiency.

It also incorporates a digital governance layer that allows administrators to evaluate performance across centres, making the entire process more data-driven and less reliant on manual reporting.

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao noted that the initiative is expected to enhance clinical governance and align public dialysis services more closely with private sector standards. The move reflects a broader push within the state to integrate digital tools into healthcare delivery, improving both accountability and patient outcomes.

Speaking at the launch, NephroPlus CEO Rohit Singh said, "Continuous monitoring is crucial in dialysis care, and the new system would help maintain uniform standards across centres while ensuring safer treatment for patients."

Currently deployed across seven dialysis centres, the system is expected to expand further, supporting the state’s goal of delivering reliable and high-quality care to a growing patient population.
