K'taka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao Inaugurates India’s First AI-Powered Mental Health Hospital in Bengaluru
Partnering with DoctorAssist.AI, a Bengaluru-based healthtech, they unveiled SafeRx, an AI-powered system designed to enhance prescription safety and antibiotic stewardship.
Amaha, one of India’s leading mental health service providers, has announced the opening of its first super-specialty mental health hospital in Thanisandra, Bengaluru.
This milestone makes it India’s first private facility dedicated solely to inpatient care for moderate to severe psychiatric conditions.
The 27-bed hospital is a purpose-built institution designed to support individuals facing acute mental health distress. It expands on Amaha’s network of outpatient centers across Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi, which have collectively served over 40,000 clients.
At the inauguration, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, emphasized the importance of specialised care in mental health.
“Mental health is becoming a priority in our public health agenda. Today, it’s not just the elderly, young people too are increasingly affected. Rapid societal shifts, academic and career pressures, substance use, digital addiction, and poor sleep are all major contributors. Every school must have access to counselling, and I’m glad the Supreme Court has recognised this need. Specialised care is crucial. Mental health treatment isn’t just clinical, it involves emotion, deep analysis, and responsible intervention,” he said.
The new Amaha facility brings together a robust team of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, peer support specialists, and social workers. It is equipped to manage trauma, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, treatment-resistant depression, ADHD, deaddiction, and other complex conditions.
“Facilities like Amaha’s hospital offer intensive, trauma-informed, multidisciplinary care that can truly make a difference. I’m also pleased to share that psychiatric assessments are now part of the 14 core health parameters under Karnataka’s public healthcare services,” the Minister added.
In parallel with the launch, Amaha introduced a strategic collaboration with DoctorAssist.AI, a Bengaluru-based health technology firm. Together, they unveiled SafeRx, an AI-powered system designed to enhance prescription safety and antibiotic stewardship.
Dr. V.K. Pratheesh, academic coordinator at Amala Medical College and Research Centre, which is also adopting the SafeRx system, explained its impact: “SafeRx will serve as a real-time decision-support tool for doctors, ensuring medication safety, appropriate antibiotic use, and adherence to clinical protocols. The AI system evaluates a patient’s history, diagnosis, and comorbidities before suggesting prescriptions. It also flags potential drug interactions and resistance risks, thereby contributing significantly to better clinical outcomes and public health protection.”
With this launch, Amaha is raising the bar for mental healthcare delivery in India—blending compassion, clinical excellence, and technology in a culturally attuned model of care.
