Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has addressed the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, highlighting India’s continued commitment to equitable healthcare and global cooperation.
Addressing the Assembly on the theme “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility,” Nadda underlined the importance of collective global efforts in strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring that no one is left behind.
In his address, he emphasized that India is firmly committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by making healthcare accessible, affordable, and inclusive. He noted that the country’s healthcare strategy is built on a strong foundation of policy support, technological innovation, and community participation.
Nadda also highlighted India’s comprehensive approach towards strengthening healthcare systems through a “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” framework, where multiple sectors and stakeholders work together to improve health outcomes.
A key focus of his speech was the government’s flagship initiative, Ayushman Bharat, which has significantly expanded healthcare access across the country.
He pointed out that the scheme has benefited nearly 600 million people, particularly those from vulnerable and economically weaker sections. This large-scale coverage has played a crucial role in reducing financial barriers to healthcare and improving access to essential medical services.
Nadda also drew attention to the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) as a transformative step in India’s healthcare journey. The mission aims to create a robust digital health ecosystem by enabling the creation of digital health IDs and integrating patient records across healthcare providers. This not only improves efficiency and transparency but also ensures continuity of care and better health management.
He further stressed the role of digital public infrastructure in reshaping healthcare delivery, stating that India’s experience can serve as a model for other nations. By promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing, India seeks to contribute to global health development and strengthen international partnerships.
