India and France have launched the Innovation Roadmap 2030 aimed at strengthening bilateral partnership, focusing on healthcare, biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), and life sciences research at the heart of their expanding strategic partnership.
The roadmap was unveiled during the inauguration of the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The roadmap aims to accelerate joint innovation and strengthen bilateral cooperation in emerging technologies across areas such as healthcare, AI innovation, digital technology and cyberspace, research, technology, economy, educational links, and people-to-people ties.
A major focus of the agreement is the development of AI-powered and research-based solutions to address global healthcare challenges.
In addition, the partnership seeks to advance secure, consent-based data-sharing frameworks that can support medical research, public health initiatives, and healthcare innovation while safeguarding privacy and patient rights.
Building on existing collaborations between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and France’s Health Data Hub, both countries will work toward establishing interoperable health data infrastructures to enable responsible data exchange for healthcare research and AI applications.
The initiative is expected to facilitate the development of data-driven healthcare solutions, disease surveillance systems, and precision medicine approaches.
The roadmap also highlights the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in biomedical sciences and health innovation through the Franco-Indian Campus in Life Sciences for Health (FIC-LSH).
The platform is expected to support joint research programmes, academic collaboration, innovation partnerships, and talent exchange in healthcare and biotechnology.
Another major focus of the partnerships is Artificial Intelligence, with both countries committing to developing safe, secure, and trustworthy AI systems.
In healthcare, AI is expected to accelerate medical research, improve diagnostics, enhance clinical decision-making, and support the development of innovative treatments.
The roadmap is further intended to foster closer collaboration among universities, research institutions, startups, and industry to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into commercial healthcare and biotechnology products.
Furthermore, through platforms such as the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA) and the newly launched India-France Innovation Network (IFIN), researchers and entrepreneurs from both countries are expected to get access to collaborative research opportunities, innovation ecosystems, and technology development programmes.
The latest initiative builds upon earlier efforts to strengthen Indo-French cooperation in health technology and AI, including the inauguration of the Indo-French Centre for AI in Health by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to India earlier in February 2026.
