UP Gov Advances India-US Cooperation in Healthcare & Life Sciences

The Uttar Pradesh Government has recently held discussions with the US delegation to advance India-US Cooperation in healthcare and pharma, life sciences, and other sectors.

Led by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) in association with the US Foreign Commercial Service and the US-India Business Council (USIBC), the 23-member US delegation met with UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, senior ministers, and officials to explore investment and potential partnership opportunities.

The discussions focused on prospective investments, technology transfer, R&D, manufacturing, market linkages, business partnerships, and long-term institutional cooperation.

During the engagement, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Uttar Pradesh Promote Pharma Council (UPPPC), the IACC, and the Uttar Pradesh Government.

The agreement is intended to establish a structured framework to promote investment and collaboration in Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare and life sciences sectors, including investment facilitation, technology transfer, R&D, manufacturing, public–private partnerships, and government-industry engagement.

As per reports, the implementation of the framework will include a Joint Working Group and designated nodal officers to coordinate areas of collaboration.

The discussions highlighted healthcare priorities and patient access, including innovative medicines, specialty therapies, oncology, cardiovascular care, and diabetes.

Additionally, primary and secondary healthcare, diagnostics, and medical technologies were other key areas of discussion.

Further, the delegation and state representatives also discussed digital health and AI, including remote healthcare, healthcare infrastructure, and PPP models.

Other areas included life sciences investment and manufacturing, clusters, R&D and technology transfer, incentives, government procurement, investment incentives, and healthcare workforce skilling.

The visiting delegation included senior representatives from leading global companies such as MSD, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Roche, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, BD, GE, Illumina, Bayer, Corteva Agriscience, PepsiCo, and Grant Thornton.

The latest development follows Uttar Pradesh's partnership with Japan focused on healthcare technology adoption, medtech, advanced surgical robots, pharmaceuticals, and skilled healthcare workforce development.

As part of the collaboration, the state also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 12 pharmaceutical companies and is further engaging Japanese institutional investors for the development of new medical colleges under the PPP model.
