Pune Civic Body to Upgrade Nine Civic Hospitals with Modular OTs, ICUs & Digital Ward Systems

The PMC will also introduce an Advanced Integrated Ward Management System to streamline administrative and medical processes and improve hospital workflows.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned an upgrade of nine civic hospitals and maternity homes with modular operation theatres, intensive care units, neonatal care facilities and digital ward-management systems, aiming to expand specialised treatment and reduce patient referrals to tertiary-care hospitals.

Under the project, the PMC will upgrade Late Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Bopodi, Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Yerawada, Late Shriramrao Yadav Hospital in Aundh, Dr Kashinath Anaji Dhanawade Maternity Home in Balajinagar, Kamla Nehru Hospital in Mangalwar Peth, Rajmata Jijau Maternity Home in Bibwewadi, Jayabai Nanasaheb Sutar Maternity Home in Kothrud, Savitribai Phule Maternity Home in Mundhwa, and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Maternity Home in Bopodi.

The civic body plans to install modular OTs with specialised panels, ceiling and flooring systems, and modern ventilation.

The upgrade will also include HVAC systems and central medical gas pipelines, with the aim of improving ventilation, temperature regulation, infection control and safety in critical clinical areas.

Maternity services will also be strengthened through upgraded labour rooms and improved facilities for women.

Planned additions include smart displays, air-shower facilities, biomedical waste-management systems, modular partitions and antimicrobial painting in women’s wards.

Moreover, a 10-bed ICU with critical-care equipment is planned at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Bopodi. The PMC also plans a 10-bed NICU at Kamla Nehru Hospital, with 10 neonatal ventilators and 10 CPAP machines for respiratory support.

Dr Suryakant Devkar, assistant health chief of the PMC, said, “The proposed NICU and ICU facilities are expected to be particularly important for patients who require immediate and specialised care. The civic body will appoint as many as 38 specialised doctors on a contract basis for these facilities.”

According to officials, tenders for some of the upgrade works have already been floated, while the tendering process for the remaining projects is expected to begin soon.
