Hospital Upgrades Gain Momentum as Centre Expands Affordable Healthcare Infrastructure in Hyderabad

The hospital upgrades further include the installation of oxygen generation plants at major healthcare institutions, such as NIMS and Secunderabad hospitals, to strengthen emergency and critical care readiness.

The Centre has expanded major hospital upgrades across Hyderabad to improve affordable healthcare access through new medical infrastructure, oxygen support systems, and advanced diagnostic systems at primary health centres.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, after distributing medical equipment at Urban Primary Health Centres in Hyderabad, stated that while private hospitals continue to play an important role, public hospitals remain essential for citizens who cannot afford the expensive treatment costs.

He added that the Centre is investing in hospital upgrades to ensure wider access to treatment and diagnostic services through government-run institutions.

Among the major projects highlighted was the modernization of the Employees’ State Insurance Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital. According to the Minister, the upgraded ESI facility is currently witnessing higher outpatient footfall than both Osmania Hospital and Gandhi Hospital.

He also stated that the AIIMS facility under construction in Hyderabad is being developed at an estimated cost of nearly INR 1300 Cr. While the full inauguration is expected next year, inpatient services and surgical procedures have already commenced.

Treatment at the institution is reportedly being offered at a nominal cost of INR 10, aimed at making specialized healthcare accessible to broader sections of society.

The hospital upgrades further include the installation of oxygen generation plants at major healthcare institutions, such as NIMS and Secunderabad hospitals, to strengthen emergency and critical care readiness.

Under the National Health Mission, infrastructure improvements are also being carried out across several public health facilities.

At the constituency level, Urban Primary Health Centres are receiving advanced diagnostic systems for eye examinations and blood testing. At the Amberpet centre, medical equipment worth INR 9 lakh was distributed as part of the expansion efforts.

The Minister also noted that local clinics are being converted into wellness centres, while shelters have been constructed for attendants accompanying patients at government hospitals.
