Construction Begins on 2,000-Bed Osmania General Hospital Complex in Hyderabad

The upcoming healthcare facility, designed to serve as one of Hyderabad’s major public hospitals, is scheduled for completion in 30 months.

Construction of the new Osmania General Hospital complex began on Thursday, with Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) launching work at the Goshamahal Police Stadium site.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had earlier laid the foundation stone for the project on January 31 this year.

The upcoming healthcare facility, designed to serve as one of Hyderabad’s major public hospitals, is scheduled for completion in 30 months. Spread across 26 acres with a total built-up area of 32 lakh sq. ft., the complex will have a capacity of 2,000 beds.

The layout includes a main hospital block covering nearly 23 lakh sq. ft., an academic block, separate hostels for men and women, a dharamshala, a mortuary, utility facilities, and a security building. Provision has also been made for two-level basement parking to accommodate around 1,500 cars.

The design features several green building principles, incorporating rooftop terrace gardens and cross-ventilation technologies aimed at maintaining continuous airflow and ensuring patient comfort.

Speaking on the occasion, MEIL’s president of Projects, K. Govardhan Reddy, said, “The project will be executed within the stipulated timeframe and the new complex will match the standards of leading private hospitals, equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced medical technology.”

Once completed, the Osmania General Hospital complex is expected to enhance the state’s healthcare infrastructure by providing expanded inpatient capacity, improved facilities, and an upgraded environment for medical care, teaching, and research.
