NIMS & IISc Bengaluru to Collaborate for AI Integration in Advanced Diagnostics

Both institutions have indicated plans to work towards a long-term strategic partnership that combines clinical expertise with advanced research capabilities and develops AI solutions that can be deployed across real-world clinical settings.

Hyderabad-based Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has announced plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence tools into diagnosis and patient care through a collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru.

The partnership will focus on developing AI-based healthcare solutions, research, and precision medicine applications.

As a part of the initiative, senior management of NIMS held discussions with representatives from the TANUH Foundation and the Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence in Healthcare, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

The proposed collaboration will enable Multi-centre AI healthcare studies and joint development of AI tools for patient care.

It will also explore opportunities in clinical data-driven research, precision medicine, and translational AI applications, with a focus on moving innovations from research labs to clinical settings.

In addition, both institutions have indicated plans to work towards a long-term strategic partnership that combines clinical expertise with advanced research capabilities and develops AI solutions that can be deployed in real-world clinical settings, which is expected to directly support patient care and improve outcomes.

As per reports, formalities to operationalize the collaboration are expected to be completed shortly.

Previously, the healthcare institution, in partnership with IIT Hyderabad, had launched an open-source dataset featuring digitised histopathological images of brain cancer and lupus nephritis (a kidney disease).

The initiative was part of the India Pathology Dataset (IPD) project, which aims to revolutionise pathology in India by bringing together academia, hospitals, industry, and government.
