Himachal Minister Calls for Procurement of Medical Equipment to Boost State Healthcare Infrastructure

The Health Minister highlighted that robotic surgery has already been implemented for the first time in the state, and the government has invested approximately INR 1,110 crore in boosting the state's infrastructure.

Himachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) has directed officials to accelerate the procurement of medical equipment worth INR 1710 crore.

The initiative aims to modernize the state’s healthcare infrastructure and strengthen diagnostic and treatment services across government hospitals.

In a recent meeting, the minister emphasized the need to speed up the procurement and tendering procedures while upholding standards of quality and transparency.

The funding is being mobilized under Phase I of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)–supported programme, under which INR 1,710 crore has been earmarked for the procurement of advanced medical and diagnostic equipment.

Additionally, the state government has also submitted a proposal for Phase II funding worth INR 1,617 crore to enhance healthcare capacity.

These initiatives are designed to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the state, reduce referrals outside the state, and ensure access to advanced treatment closer to home.

The approved procurement includes a wide range of biomedical equipment, advanced diagnostic systems, laparoscopic and surgical instruments, and automated laboratory machinery for government medical colleges and hospitals across Himachal Pradesh.

The Health Minister also highlighted that robotic surgery has already been implemented for the first time in the state, and the government has invested approximately INR 1,110 crore in boosting the state's infrastructure, including the State Cancer Institute, Trauma Centres, Cancer Day Care, Medical Colleges, and Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans.

He further remarked, “Modernization and strengthening of health infrastructure and expansion of quality healthcare services is the priority for Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The Chief Minister has repeatedly made clear that all the requirements of the health sector would be fulfilled without any financial constraint. Our government was dedicatedly working to provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to every citizen across, ensuring that no one has to move out of the state in search of quality treatment. This would save time and money for the people."
