Key Highlights
A key component of the initiative is the proposed Institute of Neuroscience and Research Centre at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
CM Patel also laid the foundation stone for the facility, which is estimated to cost INR 223 crore.
The institute will be developed at an estimated cost of INR 223 crore and will have a planned capacity of 521 beds across a built-up area of approximately 58,831 square metres.
The proposed facility will include 288 general ward beds, 160 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 57 special and semi-special beds, and 16 triage beds. It will also have 13 operation theatres, along with neurology and neurosurgery departments, emergency radiology, advanced laboratories, a blood bank, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), and an in-house neuro-rehabilitation centre.
The institute is planned to provide specialised care for strokes, brain tumours, complex brain and spinal cord disorders, accident-related neurological injuries and conditions requiring long-term rehabilitation. It is also intended to support patients with complex neurological disorders from Gujarat and neighbouring states.
Plans are also underway to establish a fully equipped Spine Hospital within the same complex to facilitate access to world-class treatment for economically weaker and middle-income families.
The 255 newly constructed healthcare facilities were inaugurated virtually by the Chief Minister.
These include health sub-centres, primary health centres, and community health centres intended to strengthen primary and preventive care at the local level.
The additional 45 projects will be developed at a cost of INR 347 crore and are intended to expand the state's healthcare infrastructure further.
Beyond Ahmedabad, the government plans to develop new Medicities at Vasai and Kamrej on the lines of the Ahmedabad model, with an estimated investment of around INR 3,000 crore.
These projects are intended to bring comprehensive healthcare services under one roof.
Further, the state plans to expand its cardiology and neurology services in Gandhinagar and Surat.
Commenting on the new development, Minister of State for Health Praful Pansheriya said, “Inauguration and foundation-stone-laying ceremonies for around 255 healthcare facilities across the state, involving an investment of over INR 500 crore, would help provide quality medical services even in the remotest areas. The Institute of Neuroscience and Research Centre, to be built on the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital campus for INR 223 crore, will cover 58,000 square metres and have 525 beds and 13 state-of-the-art operation theatres. The institute will provide vital support to patients suffering from complex neurological disorders.”
