Gujarat CM Lays Foundation for INR 910 Cr Torrent Group-Backed Hospital in Vyara

The CM also inaugurated the redeveloped 317-bed hospital at UNM General Hospital in Vyara, Tapi district.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has laid the foundation stone for a new 800-bed UNM Medical College and General Hospital project in Vyara, Gujarat’s Tapi district.

The proposed 800-bed hospital is being developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) between the UNM Foundation, the Philanthropic wing of Torrent Group, and the Gujarat government.

The broader project also includes a 150-seat MBBS medical college and student hostel in Vyara.

As part of the PPP collaboration, the UNM Foundation has committed INR 910 Crore for the development of the hospital.

According to the organisation, the upcoming hospital is expected to benefit nearly 8 lakh people in Tapi and adjoining areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra while reducing the need for patients to travel to distant centres for healthcare services.

The Transitional Hospital spans 9,986 sq m and has been developed at the existing UNM General Hospital campus.

The facility includes 271 ward beds and 46 critical care beds and is intended to maintain healthcare services while the larger 800-bed hospital project is constructed.

Its outpatient department capacity has increased from about 700 to 1,200 patients daily, with 24 dedicated OPD rooms covering 17 clinical specialities.

The new hospital is equipped with four operation theatres, including three for major surgeries and one for Caesarean and maternity services, along with an emergency minor OT and a post-mortem OT. Critical care facilities include 34 ICU beds, 12 NICU/PICU beds, and six emergency room beds.

Additional facilities include advanced pathology and microbiology laboratories, a blood storage centre, X-ray and ultrasound equipment, an eight-bed dialysis unit, CSSD, a Kangaroo Mother Care room, and an NRC ward.

The initiative is intended to improve access to healthcare for tribal and rural communities by providing medical services closer to their homes while reducing travel time and associated costs.
