The Gujarat government has announced plans to build two 1,500-bed hospitals in Ahmedabad and Surat as part of its efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure and strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

The proposed project was recently announced by Gujarat Health Minister Prafull Pansuriya to provide advanced medical facilities for residents of Gujarat and patients from other parts of India.

The government is also focusing on enhancing hospital cleanliness and addressing existing gaps in healthcare services.

The construction of these hospitals is expected to significantly boost the state's healthcare capacity and provide better healthcare facilities to the residents of Gujarat.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning India as a premier medical tourism destination, Pansuriya stated, “Our goal is for these hospitals to feature world-class infrastructure. We aim to provide high-quality medical care to the people of Gujarat and patients from across India, while also making these facilities accessible to international patients.”

The new hospitals are expected to significantly increase the state’s healthcare capacity and support efforts to attract patients seeking advanced treatment.

In a separate development, the Gujarat government has approved four brownfield medical colleges in Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath districts under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The projects will involve upgrading existing district government hospitals into medical colleges and hospitals, with selected institutions required to continue existing free healthcare services.

The initiative is expected to boost medical education seats alongside expanding access to specialist healthcare in rural and remote areas.

The approvals were recently announced by state Health Minister Praful Pansheriya through the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Under the approved plan, Shri Gayaprasad Jain Charitable Trust, Ahmedabad, will establish the medical college and hospital in Kheda district. Shri Swaminarayan Vishwamangal Gurukul, Kalol, affiliated with Swaminarayan University, has been selected for Mahisagar.

Additionally, Shri Chanakya Education and Charitable Trust, Veraval, will undertake the project in Gir Somnath, while Delta Millennium Medicare Private Limited, Bhadiyad, Morbi, will establish the facility in Botad.

According to the state government, the projects are intended to increase the availability of medical education, improve access to specialist doctors, and enable residents to access advanced treatment closer to their homes.
