The project, supported by central government funding of INR 2,400 Cr, aims to create 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
The Delhi government is set to introduce 70 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAYs) across the national capital, with one in each assembly constituency starting in May.
The project is part of a larger initiative to strengthen the city's primary healthcare network, with central government funding of INR 2,400 Cr. These centers will be set up by upgrading existing Primary Health Centres (PHCs), dispensaries, and mohalla clinics.
According to a senior Health Department official, the implementation process is already underway, with 10 to 15 constituencies nearing completion as suitable locations are finalized.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta previously announced that the long-term goal is establishing 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). The MoU seeks to enhance the city's primary healthcare services.
The new centers will build upon existing mohalla clinic services, providing general outpatient care, maternal and child healthcare services, vaccinations, and screenings for non-communicable diseases like hypertension.
Since its launch on April 5, over 1.75 lakh families have already enrolled under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.
In a similar development, the Delhi government issued a directive to 110 hospitals across the national capital, mandating the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) scheme.
The move aimed to ensure that healthcare services under the scheme are available to beneficiaries at the earliest. Hospitals have been asked to sign the necessary agreements to allow the scheme's rollout, which is set to begin in November 2025.
