Deepinder Goyal Targets Six to Twelve Month Launch for Temple Wearable

Goyal said his team has identified a new biomarker called "entropy," which he claims correlates with metabolic rate and provides insights into stress, meditation, recovery, sleep, and exercise by directly measuring changes in the body's metabolic state.

Deepinder Goyal, co-founder of Zomato and former Chief Executive Officer of Eternal, has said that his wearable device, Temple, is expected to launch within six to twelve months.

The device, which is designed to measure the body's metabolic state in real time, will initially be introduced as a wellness product supported by peer-reviewed studies.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Goyal said, "Maybe 6 to 12 months." He also acknowledged that the project has faced delays, adding, "But I've been saying that for the last 18 months. So I don't know."

Temple has been positioned as a wearable for high-performing users such as athletes, executives and founders rather than a mass market product. Explaining the motivation behind the venture, Goyal said, "I'm not building Temple for everybody. Actually, I'm building it only for myself." He added, "Business is a side effect of what we're doing for ourselves."

The bean-shaped wearable is designed to be worn on the side of the forehead, from which it derives its name. It is expected to retail at around $1,000. Goyal has previously been seen wearing the device, while badminton player PV Sindhu also wore it during the 2026 Uber Cup in April.

According to Goyal, Temple focuses on measuring metabolic rate directly rather than using heart rate as a proxy. "Heart rate was supposed to be the proxy for metabolic rate. We found the real thing," he said.

On the launch strategy, Goyal said, "We will launch it as a wellness device with peer-reviewed studies and everything."

He added that the device could later undergo medical regulatory approvals as additional features are introduced. "We have features coming up which will need it to become a medical device. So those features, whenever we have them, we will go through the regulatory approvals and then launch those features," he said.

Applications for early access to Temple opened in May this year. According to Goyal, more than one lakh people applied for the first 100 Temple devices.

Temple will be the first commercial product from Goyal's new venture since he stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of Eternal in February. He described it as one of his experiments with high-risk ideas outside the Eternal group.
