Cornerstone Robotics Secures $200 Mn Backing from Hong Kong Investment Fund

The new fund will be used to accelerate commercial rollouts in China and international markets, enhance its research and development pipeline, and expand regulatory registration efforts for new products.

Hong Kong-based, a leading surgical robotics company, has secured approximately $200 million in a funding round backed by the Hong Kong Investment Corporation (HKICP), the Hong Kong government's investment arm.

This round also included participation from global strategic investors, other sovereign wealth funds, and existing backers such as Qiming Venture Partners and Gaorong Capital.

Founded in 2019, Cornerstone Robotics specializes in the development and commercialization of advanced minimally invasive surgical robotic systems.

As per reports, the company has already achieved regulatory approvals for its laparoscopic robot in China and Europe, positioning it as one of Asia’s leading players in surgical automation.

The new fund will be used to accelerate commercial rollouts in China and international markets, enhance its research and development pipeline, and expand regulatory registration efforts for new products.

Earlier in January, the company had secured $70 million in Series C funding led by EQT.

With the latest investment, the company's valuation has reached $1 billion.

According to the company, “Cornerstone Robotics has received continued and strong support from HKIC, including its lead in this round. This not only serves as an authoritative endorsement of our product innovation and global commercialisation capabilities, but also reflects the firm confidence and long-term commitment of Hong Kong's local capital, and even the government, in nurturing technology unicorns.”

The company has recently collaborated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to develop the world’s first multifunctional embodied-intelligence platform for surgical robots, as well as with Singapore’s NHG Health on initiatives in training, teaching, research, and clinical applications of its robotic surgical systems. These partnerships contributed to the first autonomous surgical demonstration on its flagship Sentire system.
