BPCL Backs 50-Bedded Advanced Hospital at Shri Kedarnath Dham to Strengthen Emergency Healthcare Access

The upgraded facility has been equipped with intensive care support, ventilators, diagnostic laboratories, and round-the-clock medical services tailored for high-altitude healthcare delivery.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has expanded healthcare support infrastructure in Uttarakhand by partnering with the Swami Vivekanand Health Mission Society to establish a 50-bed advanced hospital at Shri Kedarnath Dham, designed to improve access to timely treatment and emergency care in the remote pilgrimage corridor.

The upgraded facility has been equipped with intensive care support, ventilators, diagnostic laboratories, and round-the-clock medical services tailored for high-altitude healthcare delivery.

The hospital is also connected to AIIMS Rishikesh for referral-based critical care support, enabling faster escalation of severe cases requiring advanced intervention.

Sanjay Khanna, Chairman & Managing Director, BPCL, with additional charge of Director (Refineries), said, “At BPCL, our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility goes beyond the creation of infrastructure; it is about creating meaningful and lasting impact in people's lives.”

“Equipped with modern medical facilities, the hospital will play a critical role in addressing health emergencies and ensuring that both pilgrims and local communities have access to dependable, quality healthcare services, delivered with compassion, care, and timeliness,” he added.

The project has been implemented in partnership with Swami Vivekanand Health Mission Society, an organisation that has been operating healthcare facilities in remote regions of Uttarakhand since 2012.

The society currently manages hospitals across key pilgrimage circuits, including Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Gangotri, with a focus on reducing morbidity and mortality in difficult-to-access mountainous regions.

The hospital is expected to serve more than one lakh patients annually, including nearly 30,000 emergency cases.

Inaugurating the hospital, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, stated that the operation of a modern hospital equipped with advanced medical facilities in this high-altitude Himalayan region with challenging geographical conditions will significantly strengthen healthcare services.

He added that around 6.1 million Ayushman cards have been issued under the Ayushman scheme so far, enabling lakhs of patients across the state to receive free treatment. He also said that efforts are underway to establish one medical college in every district of the state.

Beyond pilgrimage healthcare, the facility is also likely to support local residents living in remote Himalayan communities where access to advanced medical infrastructure has traditionally remained limited due to terrain and weather conditions.
