Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Prayagraj to Offer Specialist Consultations Through Telemedicine

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to revamp Ayushman Arogya Mandirs with the introduction of the Hub and Spoke model, aimed at connecting patients in remote areas with specialist doctors through telemedicine and modern digital technologies, while also making essential diagnostic facilities accessible.

Under the model, a hub will be established at a medical college, district hospital, or community health centre where specialist doctors will be available. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs located at the village or panchayat level will function as spokes.

Patients will visit their nearest Ayushman Arogya Mandir, where the community health officer will upload their symptoms and preliminary test reports to the e Sanjeevani portal. Specialist doctors at the larger hospitals functioning as hubs will then examine patients through online video consultations and issue digital prescriptions.

Divisional Project Manager, National Health Mission, Harit Saxena said Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj has been developed as a hub.

To address the time required for pathology tests, smart testing kits are being provided to Arogya Mandirs. These include a dry biochemistry analyser that allows testing of haemoglobin, key liver and kidney function parameters, and blood sugar levels in 5 to 10 minutes without the need for a large laboratory.

Reportedly, portable kits have also been provided to facilitate early detection of anaemia and high-risk pregnancies.

The government has also linked Arogya Mandirs with state-level Tele MANAS helpline centres to address mental health issues in rural areas. Through this initiative, villagers experiencing stress, depression, insomnia, or other mental health issues can access free and confidential counselling services through Arogya Mandirs.

Saxena said there are currently 494 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Prayagraj. The Tele MANAS helpline has also been launched in the district, with two numbers, 14416 and 1800, made available.

As of August 2026, the service had been utilised by 755 patients suffering from mental health issues.
