The collaboration will focus on Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

AstraZeneca and Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific have signed a three-year agreement to expand the use of AI-based cancer pathology and computational diagnostics across Asia, aiming to strengthen biomarker testing and support more precise treatment decisions for breast and lung cancer patients.

The collaboration will focus on Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Through educational programmes and clinical training initiatives, the companies plan to support the integration of AI-assisted computational pathology into routine diagnostic workflows.

“Building resilient health systems is fundamental to our mission of transforming cancer care,” said Arun Krishna, Area Vice President, Asia, AstraZeneca. “This collaboration aims to address existing diagnostic gaps across the region. By combining efforts with Roche Diagnostics to advance education and adoption of AI-powered pathology, we can support the integration of precision diagnostics into the patient journey, helping to match more patients to the right treatment at the right time.”

According to the companies, limited awareness and low adoption of advanced pathology technologies remain key barriers in the region.

Industry data cited in the announcement showed that only 17% of clinicians consider themselves highly aware of advanced pathology technologies, while access to computational pathology-based testing remains limited in several countries.

In the Philippines, for instance, many oncologists have reported that the lack of biomarker testing availability has affected clinical decision-making.

“Through this collaboration, we are focused on strengthening diagnostic capabilities and accelerating the adoption of digital pathology across healthcare systems. This is key to enabling more consistent and reliable diagnosis, raising the standard of care for patients with lung and breast cancer,” said Lance Little, Head of Region, Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific.

The partnership between AstraZeneca and Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific is intended to support wider adoption of AI-powered pathology tools and improve awareness among healthcare professionals.
