India, Malaysia Reaffirm Healthcare Cooperation During PM Modi’s Official Visit
The visit reinforced the India–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and focused on expanding collaboration across healthcare, digital systems, trade, and people-to-people engagement.
India and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening healthcare cooperation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an official visit to Malaysia from February 7 to 8, 2026, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The visit reinforced the India–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and focused on expanding collaboration across healthcare, digital systems, trade, and people-to-people engagement.
The discussions covered healthcare, digital economy, trade and investment, defence and security, education, agriculture, science and technology, tourism, and regional and global issues of mutual interest.
In the healthcare sector, both leaders reaffirmed cooperation in healthcare and traditional medicine. Malaysia reiterated its commitment to facilitating the future deployment of Traditional Indian Medicine experts under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme.
This will enable the resumption of Traditional Indian Medicine services at selected Malaysian Ministry of Health hospitals, complementing allopathic care and advancing an integrated healthcare model.
The leaders also noted ongoing discussions on affordable healthcare and medicine, cooperation in drug regulation, recognition of pharmacopoeia, and recognition of nursing services.
They welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2025 between the Central Council for Research in Homeopathy of India and the University of Cyberjaya, Malaysia, aimed at promoting research collaboration, training, and academic exchanges in homeopathy.
Digital healthcare cooperation was reinforced through the formalisation of the Malaysia–India Digital Council, which will serve as a platform for collaboration in digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, fintech, cybersecurity, and e-governance. The leaders welcomed the collaboration between NPCI International Limited and PayNet Malaysia to establish bilateral payment linkages, enhancing access to digital payments and remittances for citizens, tourists, and businesses.
Beyond healthcare, the leaders underscored the importance of strengthening trade and investment ties, welcoming growing investments across sectors, including healthcare, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, startups, and green technologies.
Further, cooperation in education, skill development, tourism, defence, disaster management, and multilateral engagement was reaffirmed. Both leaders condemned terrorism in all forms and agreed to strengthen cooperation on counter-terrorism, security dialogue, and regional stability.
