Assam Government Outlines INR 50,000 Cr Health Infrastructure Vision in Cabinet Agenda

The state’s healthcare roadmap further includes a proposal to establish a satellite centre of AIIMS in Sribhumi as part of the Barak Valley development plan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the state government will focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding medical services as part of its governance agenda for the next five years. The remarks came following the first meeting of the NDA 3.0 Assam Cabinet.

“In the first meeting of the NDA 3.0 #AssamCabinet, we unanimously adopted a resolution to implement all the points of the BJP Sankalpa Patra- the core governance agenda for the next 5 years,” the Chief Minister posted on X.

Among the healthcare priorities highlighted is a proposed five-year Assam Swasthya Utkarsha Abhijan with a corpus of ₹50,000 crore aimed at strengthening health infrastructure across the state and positioning the North-Eastern state as ''India's Premier Hub for world-class health infrastructure''.

The agenda also includes plans to expand cancer care services through Proton Therapy, making Assam a leading cancer treatment hub in the country.

The document also reflected on healthcare initiatives undertaken in recent years. According to the details shared, over 1.7 crore beneficiaries were covered under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, with claims worth more than ₹2,400 crore settled.

Additionally, the government claimed that over 26 lakh families were covered under Ayushman Asom Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, with claims worth ₹800 crore settled.

The government further stated that under the Chief Minister Free Diagnostics Scheme, more than 13.9 lakh CT scans, 39 lakh X-rays, and 1.6 crore laboratory services have been delivered since 2021. Dialysis infrastructure also expanded from 128 machines in 2021 to 407 machines across 67 centres in 2025, supporting more than 10.23 lakh dialysis sessions.

According to the information shared, over 8,600 beneficiaries received support through interventions, including heart surgeries and cleft lip and palate surgeries.

The state also highlighted the establishment of AIIMS Guwahati with an investment exceeding ₹1,100 crore and the development of 17 specialised cancer hospitals under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation as part of Arogya Asom initiatives.
