Apollo Hospitals to Add 1,600 New Beds Across India in Major Expansion
The move marks the company’s next phase of growth, with a strong emphasis on capacity enhancement and operational efficiency.
Leading hospital chain of India, Apollo Hospitals Enterprises (AHEL), has announced a capacity-expansion plan to add 1,600 new beds over the next 12 to 14 months.
The expansion plan extends to key Indian cities, including Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Kolkata.
Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director of AHEL, stated the move marks the company’s next phase of growth, with a strong emphasis on capacity enhancement and operational efficiency.
“We will open out the new 1,600 beds in the next 14 months, and when those beds come online, you will see the existing growing at 12% and the new slowly adding up to 5% (of revenue). So, it will move to 18% over a period of 3 years,” Reddy added.
Highlighting the growing international inflow, Reddy said that about 60% of patients from Bangladesh returned in October, adding that demand from international markets such as Iraq, Indonesia, Brunei, and several African nations is also rising, making these regions key growth drivers for Apollo’s cross-border healthcare business.
On the domestic front, Reddy noted that insurance partnerships are strengthening, particularly for new hospitals such as in Pune and the Athena Women’s Oncology Centre.
She underlined that insurers and healthcare providers must collaborate closely as part of a single value chain to deliver sustainable access to quality care.
Further, it was reported that the hospital has added 148 new pharmacy stores in FY26, expanding its retail footprint across key markets.
Commenting on this regard, Reddy added, “We’ve added 148 new stores this year, which may not immediately contribute to margins. However, as these stores mature over the next three to four years, we expect them to significantly enhance profitability, potentially moving closer to double-digit margins.”
Regarding future growth, the company noted, “Our total capital expenditure plan includes adding 4,300 beds at a projected investment of ₹8,300 crore, of which approximately ₹5,000 crore remains as balance capex.”
