The initiative marks the first AI-based vascular OCT scanning system installation at Sri Datta Hospital in Narasaraopet, Andhra Pradesh.
In a major milestone to improve cardiovascular care, Andhra Pradesh-based Sri Datta Hospital has announced the successful completion of an AI-guided Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)-assisted stent implantation procedure.
According to reports, Dr Krishnakanth Garlapati, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of Sri Datta Hospital in Narasaraopet, performed the OCT-guided implantation of a Bio-Resorbable Scaffold (BRS) stent on a 60-year-old woman patient, Devi Bhai.
The procedure was carried out using an AI-based OCT scanning system designed to provide high-resolution imaging of blood vessels and support precision-guided interventions.
The implanted scaffold, a type of bioresorbable stent, is designed to gradually dissolve within two to three years after implantation.
As per the hospital, this approach allows the treated blood vessel to remain largely free of permanent stent residue over time.
Commenting on the latest initiative, Dr Krishna Kant stated that the installation of a world-class AI-based vascular OCT scanning system marks the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, at Sri Datta Hospital in Narasaraopet.
He further noted that the OCT-guided implantation of a BVS (bio-absorbable) stent was performed for the very first time in the Guntur district.
The development comes amid growing adoption of AI-based healthcare technologies across Andhra Pradesh.
It follows the state government’s successful pilots of 18 selected AI tools deployed in healthcare services across 140 government health centres and hospitals across the state as part of its broader vision to expand healthcare delivery.
