The ABHA system provides a 14-digit unique digital health identity that enables citizens to securely store, access, and share their medical records with consent across healthcare providers and platforms.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), implemented by the National Health Authority under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has crossed 90 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs), marking a significant expansion of India’s digital health ecosystem.

The ABHA system provides a 14-digit unique digital health identity that enables citizens to securely store, access, and share their medical records with consent across healthcare providers and platforms. It serves as a foundational layer for building interoperable health records under the national digital health framework.

According to official data, ABHA creation has shown steady growth since the launch of ABDM, rising from 14.7 crore accounts in 2021 to 30.4 crore in 2022, 50.6 crore in 2023, 72.2 crore in 2024, and 84.5 crore in 2025, before surpassing the 90 crore milestone in 2026.

The National Health Authority stated that the milestone reflects increasing participation from citizens, states, union territories, and ecosystem partners, including healthcare providers and digital health platforms.

Among states, Uttar Pradesh leads with more than 15.3 crore ABHA accounts. It is followed by Rajasthan and Maharashtra, each crossing the 7 crore mark. Other major contributors include Bihar and West Bengal, along with Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka.

Several smaller regions have reported near or full saturation in ABHA registration, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Among larger states, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chandigarh have recorded over 90% saturation levels.

Officials noted that women account for nearly 49.75% of total ABHA holders, indicating broad-based participation in the digital health initiative. The ABHA system is also being used to support continuity of care across maternal and child health services, immunisation tracking, and routine healthcare delivery.

The government said the progress has been made possible through collaboration between central and state authorities, along with private sector healthcare providers, diagnostic labs, insurers, and health-tech platforms integrated into the ABDM ecosystem.

The broader ABDM framework includes digital infrastructure components such as the Healthcare Professionals Registry, Health Facility Registry, Unified Health Interface, and National Health Claims Exchange, designed to enable secure and interoperable health data exchange across the system.

Authorities said continued efforts will focus on expanding adoption and strengthening integration across healthcare services to support a unified digital health network nationwide.
