AIIMS Bhubaneswar Launches Platform to Accelerate Healthtech Innovation

The initiative seeks to integrate medical research, life sciences, and technology to strengthen the region’s health-tech infrastructure.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar (AIIMS Bhubaneswar) has launched an innovation-driven healthcare ecosystem aimed at transforming health-tech ideas into commercially viable products.

As a part of the initiative, 33 start-up ideas and medical technology prototypes were displayed at the institute during its 3rd Annual Research Day and 2nd Regional Research Conclave-2025.

The initiative seeks to integrate medical research, life sciences, and technology to strengthen the region’s health-tech infrastructure.

Commenting on this, Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said, “AIIMS Bhubaneswar aims to build an integrated innovation hub for medical technology in the region.”

Also, he highlighted that as a part of this move, the institute has signed MoUs with international universities, including Western Sydney University (Australia), to introduce integrated PhD programmes for young researchers.

Further, the newly inaugurated Central Research and Skill Laboratory, opened by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, is designed to support multidisciplinary research and skill development.

Additionally, AIIMS Bhubeneshwar plans to establish a Bio-Incubation Centre, which is expected to accelerate innovation in diagnostics, disease-forecasting models, and AI-driven healthcare technologies. The centre will provide comprehensive mentoring, technical expertise, and enterprise development support to health-tech start-ups, helping transform early-stage ideas into market-ready products and reinforcing the region’s medical innovation ecosystem.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research, and Director General, ICMR, commended the initiative, saying the collaborative approach of bringing together healthcare, technology, and entrepreneurship “will play a crucial role in the Viksit Bharat movement.”
