Of these, 41 facilities are scheduled to be inaugurated today, on PM Modi's birthday, with another 19 to open on September 30.
As per reports, the entire cost of upgrading the centers is being funded by the Delhi government.
The corporation’s current focus is on refurbishing existing health infrastructure, including primary health centers (PHCs), sub-centers, maternity homes, maternity centers, and polyclinics.
The first wave of inaugurations is expected to cover healthcare centers spread across multiple zones, including four in the Central Zone, two in South Delhi, and three in West Delhi and Najafgarh.
In the next phase, the MCD plans to identify vacant buildings and acquire land to construct brand new centers.
Sixteen entirely new Ayushman Aarogya Mandir units have already been planned across different parts of the city, including three in the Central Zone, four in North Delhi, and three in North-West Delhi, with the rest distributed in South and Central Delhi.
Currently, the MCD oversees a network of healthcare facilities, including eight major hospitals such as Hindu Rao, Balak Ram, and Swami Dayanand, alongside 102 maternal and child welfare centers, 13 maternity homes, 13 polyclinics, and multiple PHCs and dispensaries.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has further announced that a total of 1,139 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs will be established across Delhi by 2026, significantly scaling up the reach of affordable and accessible primary healthcare in the city.
Earlier this month, 101 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs were inaugurated across the capital, aligning with the government’s push to accelerate the rollout of upgraded primary healthcare facilities. In a phased manner, 300 of its existing healthcare centers are set to be upgraded and transformed into Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, announced the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
