India to Operationalize Three Medical Device Parks by 2027

Medical Device Parks are designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing, lower dependence on imports, and simplify business operations for manufacturers.

Three modern medical device parks are under construction and are expected to be operational by early 2027.

Designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing, the parks will provide shared infrastructure and specialized facilities for producing critical raw materials and components, including medical-grade alloys, ceramics, polymers, glass, and packaging materials.

The initiative is intended to lower dependence on imports and simplify business operations for manufacturers.

Vision for Global Medtech Leadership

In a recent event, Amit Agrawal, Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to positioning India as a global MedTech innovation and manufacturing hub.

He emphasized that India is poised to significantly increase its share in the global medical technology market by 2047, driven by public healthcare expansion, rising disposable incomes, and wider access to medical services.

He further outlined initiatives to strengthen industry-academia linkages through the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER).

These include creating a NIPER Academia Industry Coordination Committee, forming Industry Institute Cells, enhancing industry representation on academic boards, and introducing chair professorships and professors of practice.

These measures are aimed at co-developing curricula, advancing continuing education and industrial training, fostering research partnerships, and driving industry-oriented projects to support the MedTech ecosystem.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research is a national-level institution in India dedicated to advanced research and education in pharmaceutical sciences.

As an "Institute of National Importance," NIPER offers postgraduate programs and Ph.D. degrees to develop human resources for the Indian pharmaceutical industry.

Days back, Krish Biomedicals announced the launch of the first manufacturing unit at the YEIDA Medical Device Park on September 22.
