UP CM Yogi Adityanath Emphasises Tech-Driven Healthcare & Medical Education Expansion

15.28 crore ABHA IDs have been created under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, and more than 15.14 crore electronic health records have been linked in the state.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised the importance of integrating modern technology into the expansion of healthcare services and medical education infrastructure across the state.

Addressing the recent review meeting, the CM stated that the quality of treatment, diagnostics, medicines, and emergency services in government hospitals should improve.

In addition, he highlighted the need to strengthen medical colleges, nursing institutions, and super-speciality services through modern technology, better human resources, and effective management.

Commenting on the significance of modern technology in healthcare, the Chief Minister said, "The objective of medical education is not merely to increase the number of institutions, but to provide the state with trained doctors, specialists, and quality healthcare workers. Modern equipment, expert faculty, and research activities be promoted in medical institutions."

"Technology, accountability, and sensitivity must all be visible together in health services; only then will public trust become stronger,” he added.

Sharing his thoughts on Ayushman Bharat Yojana, the CM stated that Ayushman Yojana is becoming the biggest support for poor and needy families, further directing that claim settlements be ensured within the stipulated timeframe, while timely payments to hospitals ensure better facilities for patients.

The officials also informed during the meeting that 6480 hospitals are associated with the scheme in the state, and more than 96.75 lakh free treatments have been provided so far.

The Chief Minister also directed that AYUSH systems also be included in the Deendayal Upadhyay Rajya Karmchari Cashless Chikitsa Yojana. IPD services of systems such as Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy should also be made part of the scheme.

He added, "Health workers who served during the COVID period under the National Health Mission should be appropriately adjusted on a priority basis. Payments to ASHA workers should not remain pending under any circumstances. Health ATM services be expanded to reach more areas."

Updating the current status of ABDM in UP, the officials informed that over 15.28 crore ABHA IDs have been created under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, and more than 15.14 crore electronic health records have been linked in the state.

Further, the scope of the Hospital Information System and Lab Information System is also being rapidly expanded.

Emphasising the promotion of medical research and innovation, the Chief Minister stated that medical institutions should be connected with research-based healthcare services.

In this regard, work is being carried out on the ‘UP-IMRAS’ digital initiative, Multidisciplinary Research Unit, Clinical Trial Unit, and MedTech programmes as per the official statement.

In addition, intent proposals worth approximately Rs 1500 crore have been filed for investment in medical research and the MedTech sector.

Chief Minister directed that work on under-construction medical colleges and health institutions be expedited and said, "All projects should be completed within the stipulated timeframe so that the public can soon benefit from better healthcare facilities."

Furthermore, proposed inaugurations and foundation-laying programmes scheduled for the coming months were also reviewed during the meeting. These include the 110-bed Trauma Centre at Ayodhya Medical College, the BSc Nursing College at Saharanpur Medical College, and the expansion of the Psychiatry Department and De-addiction Ward Block at Kanpur Medical College.

It was also informed that the process of establishing medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership model is progressing rapidly. Medical colleges are operational in Maharajganj, Shamli, and Sambhal, while the process is underway in several other districts.

During the meeting, the officials also highlighted the achievements of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, which included 376 robotic surgeries and over 250 kidney transplants to date, and plans to include the Gama Knife centre at the institute.

In addition, approval has been granted for a 1010-bed hospital in the new campus of Lohia Institute. Meanwhile, work on the 500-bed Advanced Pediatric Centre project at SGPGI is progressing.

Furthermore, presentations were also made during the meeting on the action plans of Uttar Pradesh State Cancer Mission, UP Trauma and Emergency Network (UPTEN), Project Sushrut, and CARE-UP Mission. Discussion under UPTEN included plans to set up an emergency trauma network across the state, while under the CARE-UP Mission, ICU and HDU services will be expanded in medical colleges and district hospitals.

As per reports, till March 2026, more than 35.69 lakh dialysis sessions and over 45.35 lakh CT scans had been conducted, while tele-radiology services are operational at 227 CHCs.

Currently, the state has 108 district hospitals, 106 specialised hospitals, 976 Community Health Centres, 3757 Primary Health Centres, and 27,668 health sub-centres that are operational in the state.
