The Government of India has appointed Dr Piyush Singla, a 2012-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer, as Director in the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

The appointment, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), will place him under the Department of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi as part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to scale digital health governance and implementation across the country.

The appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme through an official memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on May 26, 2026.

Dr Singla, an IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre of the 2012 batch, was recommended for Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs before being selected for the role.

His tenure will begin from the date he assumes charge in New Delhi.

The National Health Authority is the implementing agency for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, one of India’s flagship healthcare digitisation programmes. ABDM aims to create an integrated digital health ecosystem by enabling interoperable health records, digital health IDs, healthcare registries, and seamless exchange of patient information across hospitals, laboratories, insurers, and healthcare providers.

The initiative has become a central pillar in the government’s broader strategy to modernise healthcare access and improve continuity of care through technology.

According to the DoPT memorandum, Dr Singla’s appointment will remain co-terminus with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, although the tenure may be extended in line with the provisions of the Central Staffing Scheme.

Dr Singla is currently serving in the Jammu and Kashmir administration as Secretary to the Government in the Information Technology Department. He is also handling additional responsibilities in the General Administration Department and the Information, Hospitality, and Protocol departments.

His experience in governance, administration, and digital systems is expected to support the operational and policy priorities of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission at a time when digital health adoption is accelerating across India.
