Union Health Minister Nadda Calls for Stronger Digital Health Integration at RML Hospital
RML Hospital recorded 19.4 lakh OPD visits, more than 82,500 inpatient admissions and over 96,600 surgeries and procedures in 2025.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has called for stronger digital health integration at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi, emphasising the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), wider use of electronic prescriptions and improved patient-care services during a review of the hospital’s infrastructure and future development plans.
Nadda reviewed healthcare services at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and RML Hospital, examining clinical services, research, medical education and quality improvement initiatives.
RML Hospital recorded 19.4 lakh outpatient department (OPD) visits, more than 82,500 inpatient admissions and over 96,600 surgeries and procedures in 2025.
During the review, Nadda called for stronger implementation of ABDM at RML Hospital, aiming to strengthen digital health infrastructure and support the appropriate exchange of health information across India's healthcare ecosystem.
Electronic prescriptions and digital health systems can support clinical workflows, reduce reliance on paper-based processes, and improve access to patient information when implemented effectively.
The review also highlighted RML Hospital’s achievement of full accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) in 2025, making it the first central government multi-specialty hospital to receive the distinction, according to the Health Ministry.
The hospital has introduced measures to strengthen registration and triage, clinical and prescription audits, incident reporting, adverse drug reaction reporting and patient feedback.
It has also expanded its Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana assistance kiosks from one to three. Pre-authorisation requests under the scheme increased from 549 in 2022 to 1,516 in 2025.
Looking ahead, ABVIMS and RML Hospital have outlined plans for more patient-centric services, expanded specialised care, satellite clinics, AI-enabled monitoring and environmentally sustainable infrastructure.
The institution is also reviewing its roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047, with digital healthcare forming part of its future development priorities.
Nadda additionally stressed the mental well-being of medical students and faculty, and encouraged the implementation of Project SARATHI.
The review further covered Special Campaign 6 activities, with an emphasis on cleanliness, efficient record management, and reducing pending administrative work. The institution’s contribution of more than 2,200 research publications was also highlighted.
