Tripura Steps Up Digital Healthcare Rollout Across Hospitals, New ICUs Inaugurated at Agartala Medical College

The CM said the state was also strengthening healthcare infrastructure at district and sub-divisional hospitals, while expanding digital services and providing phased training to doctors and healthcare workers.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has inaugurated an 18-bed ICU and a modern Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at the Super Speciality Block of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) & GBP Hospital, strengthening critical-care and infection-control infrastructure at the state’s major referral hospital.

The Super Speciality Block at AGMC & GBP Hospital has been expanded as part of Tripura’s efforts to provide advanced treatment within the state. The hospital has been developing specialised services and infrastructure to reduce the need for patients to travel outside Tripura for complex medical care.

The state has also notified four additional super-speciality departments covering Hepatology and Liver Disease, Endocrinology, Clinical Haematology and Cardiac Anaesthesiology.

The newly inaugurated ICU has 18 beds, divided equally between male and female patients. It is expected to support intensive monitoring and specialised care for critically ill patients requiring continuous medical and nursing attention.

The modern CSSD will manage the cleaning, sterilisation, storage, and distribution of sterile instruments and equipment for hospital departments and operation theatres, supporting infection-control and patient-safety processes. The two facilities have been commissioned at a combined cost of INR 13.5 Cr.

Speaking at the inauguration, Tripura CM Manik Saha said, “Currently, initiatives have been taken to provide digital services in all hospitals. Digital services are already being provided in many hospitals. With the launch of the new ICUs and CSSDs at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital at a total cost of Rs 13.5 crore, it will be possible to provide fast and continuous advanced medical services to the people of the state, and the health safety of the patients will also be ensured. Currently, nine super-specialty blocks are operational to provide advanced medical services.”

The Tripura CM also announced plans to establish special green corridors to facilitate faster movement of ambulances carrying critically ill patients during emergencies.

He further announced plans for comprehensive CCTV surveillance at GBP Hospital and measures to maintain the availability of essential generic medicines.

Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, MLA and Rogi Kalyan Samiti Chairperson Mina Rani Sarkar, AGMC Principal Dr. Tapan Majumder and GBP Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami attended the inauguration.
