The collaboration will strengthen clinical research and academic engagement by forming a 'Joint Working Group' to define key project areas and outline a five-year collaboration roadmap.

Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) has partnered with Wipro GE HealthCare Technologies to establish a Cancer Research and Innovation Centre at its Mumbai facility.

Under the agreement, Wipro GE Healthcare will serve as the technology partner, while TMC will lead as the clinical oncology partner.

The collaboration will strengthen clinical research and academic engagement by forming a 'Joint Working Group' to define key project areas and outline a five-year collaboration roadmap.

The partnership comes amid growing concerns about the increasing cancer burden in India.

According to data from the Cancer Registry Program, cancer cases are expected to rise by 12.8% in 2025 compared to 2020, with roughly 100 cases per 1 lakh people currently reported.

CS Pramesh, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, said, “The government is adopting a strategic, policy-driven approach to fight cancer with the establishment of day care centres, expansion of cancer care ecosystem, promoting cancer screenings and awareness programmes. However, early detection, equitable access and preventive care remain a challenge. With this partnership with Wipro GE HealthCare, we aim to enhance clinical research and promote academic engagement to transform personalised cancer care for improved outcomes in cancer care.”

The center will develop and validate new technologies in oncology. Its focus areas include AI-based medical imaging tools, clinical workflow enhancement, hardware and software for advanced visualisation, and post-processing of medical images.

Chaitanya Sarawate, President and CEO, Wipro GE HealthCare South Asia, said, “In India, the estimated number of incidences of cancer cases was more than 14 lakh in 2023. With oncology as a focus for us at Wipro GE HealthCare, globally and with this partnership, we will strengthen our commitment to deliver solutions that connect every step of cancer care right from discovery, and diagnosis to treatment with the integration of advanced imaging technologies and AI-led solutions.”

The collaboration will also involve curated data annotation, enterprise health informatics applications, and solutions to optimize and personalize cancer care delivery.

Tata Memorial Centre, based in Mumbai, is a comprehensive cancer care institution operating under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
