Online Chikitsa Mitra Launches Bilingual Health App

The OCM app allows users to schedule appointments, conduct secure video consultations, and receive digital prescriptions.

Online Chikitsa Mitra (OCM), a healthtech startup focused on enhancing healthcare access, has launched its mobile app to extend digital consultations across India.

This new platform enables in-home consultations with specialists and general physicians, with language support in both Hindi and English.

OCM was founded in 2016 by establishing e-clinics in rural India through partnerships with local pharmacies. Since then, it has facilitated more than 120,000 consultations across over 15 states through a network of 550+ e-clinics. With the launch of the mobile app, OCM aims to scale its reach by offering direct access to healthcare professionals without the need for physical clinics.

“Our ultimate goal is to make healthcare a right, not a privilege, for all by scaling technology-driven solutions that meet evolving healthcare needs. With our mobile app, we are embracing the digital transformation sweeping across India to bring healthcare to the fingertips of people in even the remotest of locations,” said Smriti Tandon, co-founder of OCM.

The app has been designed with a bilingual interface to serve India’s vast and diverse population. While only 12% of the population regularly speaks English, India has over 1.2 billion mobile users, making mobile-based, language-accessible healthcare critical to digital inclusion.

A major healthcare challenge in India, particularly in rural regions, is the shortage of specialized medical staff.

According to the Health Dynamics of India 2022-23 report by the Union Health Ministry, nearly 80% of rural community health centers lack specialist doctors. OCM’s app addresses this challenge by offering remote consultations with specialists in cardiology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, paediatrics, and more.

Sharing thoughts, Shubhang Tandon, co-founder of OCM, said, “The shortage of specialists in semi-urban and rural healthcare facilities is a reality that affects millions. Through our app, we’re utilizing technology to connect these patients with top-tier specialists, empowering communities with a lifeline that’s convenient, effective, and life-changing.”

The OCM app allows users to schedule appointments, conduct secure video consultations, and receive digital prescriptions.

It is now available for download on Android and iOS platforms. The company aims to onboard more specialists and scale up to 1,000 consultations per day by the end of FY 2025-26.
