Narayana Health Stresses Cardiac Health, Launches New Screening Initiative for Women
According to the hospital network, the camps will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are expected to provide up to 5,000 tests nationwide.
Backing the government’s recent initiative, Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, Naryana Health has launched free ECG screening camps for women across India.
The initiative was rolled out on 17 September and is being implemented at Narayana Health City in Bengaluru along with more than 20 of the hospital chain’s units nationwide.
Dr. Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, said in a statement, “A woman’s health is the pillar of well-being in a family, and we wholeheartedly welcome the government’s initiative of Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan. At Narayana Health, our dream has always been to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone. Through this initiative we are aiming to provide 5,000 free ECGs across the country and we are not merely giving a diagnostic test; we are opening the door to conversation and awareness of heart health.”
The campaign was inaugurated by the Govt of India as a dedicated drive running from 17 September to 2 October, with a focus on preventive health, nutrition, and early detection of non-communicable diseases among women.
As part of the programme, Narayana Health has committed to conducting a large number of free ECG screenings within a single day. According to the hospital network, the camps will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are expected to provide up to 5,000 tests nationwide.
Rise of Cardiac Cases
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death among women in India, with symptoms frequently overlooked or misattributed. A resting ECG, while not a comprehensive diagnostic tool, can detect irregular heart rhythms, conduction issues, or signs of prior cardiac events.
Narayana Health officials stated that the purpose of the camps is not only to identify potential abnormalities but also to encourage more women to seek medical attention when necessary and to create awareness around heart health.
The government’s Abhiyaan has been positioned as an extension of national health and nutrition initiatives, aiming to reach women and families with both screening services and education on lifestyle diseases.
By aligning with the programme, Narayana Health is focusing on cardiac health among women, an area where experts have repeatedly warned that early signs often go undetected until late stages.
Sharing thoughts, Dr. Emmanuel Rupert, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Narayana Health, said, “Women’s health is a national priority, and heart disease is often a silent threat. By offering quick, accessible ECG screening across our network, we hope to detect disorders early and connect women to timely care. This initiative reaffirms our commitment to public health and preventive care, aligned with the government’s mission of healthier women, healthier families, and a healthier India.”
