MNCU, ART Center & ECRC Inaugurated at CMCH

Inaugurating the ART center, the Minister noted that the INR 16.3 lakh facility would enable underprivileged couples to access IVF treatment at no cost.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has inaugurated several critical facilities at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

These include a Mother-Newborn Care Unit (MNCU), an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) center, and an Emergency Care and Recovery Center (ECRC).

The newly established 10-bed MNCU, built for INR 86 lakh, is equipped to treat mothers and their newborns in the same space, enhancing maternal and neonatal care.

Inaugurating the ART center, the Minister noted that the INR 16.3 lakh facility would enable underprivileged couples to access IVF treatment at no cost.

“The ART center that has come up at the tertiary level government hospital... will help couples from poor economic backgrounds undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, which in private facilities costs INR 10 to INR 12 lakh,” he said, adding that similar centers are functional in Egmore and Salem.

Subramanian also announced the state’s rollout of somatrogon, a growth hormone deficiency medication for children, at an expenditure of INR 13.28 Cr.

“At a time, each beneficiary will be given the medication, which comes as a disposable injection pen, for five weeks that cost around INR 60,000,” he said.

An Emergency Care and Recovery Center (ECRC), a 15-bed unit for immediate care of homeless and street-dwelling persons, has also been inaugurated. The Minister shared that 16 such centers are operating across the state with NGO support.

Top officials, including Health Secretary P Senthil Kumar, Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar, MPs Ganapathy P Rajkumar and K Eswarasamy, Mayor K Ranganayaki, and CMCH Dean Dr A Nirmala, were present.
