Major Healthcare Milestone for Gujarat: PM Modi Inaugurates 220-bedded ESIC Hospital in Surat

In a move aimed at strengthening quality healthcare access for India's organised workforce, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 220-bedded Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Surat.
The inauguration was part of a larger programme under which the Prime Minister launched and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects across Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Built at a cost of INR 216 Crore, the latest hospital spans across an 8.60-acre campus and is expected to serve approximately 3.20 lakh Insured Persons and around 12.16 lakh beneficiaries of the region.
The newly inaugurated 220-bedded ESIC Hospital at Surat is located just 20 minutes from Surat Railway Station, and is designed to improve access to quality healthcare services for workers and their families.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of specialties, including General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Oncology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Dental care, supported by advanced Radiology, Pathology.
In addition, it features 24/7 emergency and trauma care to ensure the timely management of occupational injuries and medical emergencies.
The inauguration further strengthens Gujarat's expansive ESI healthcare ecosystem, which commenced in the state in October 1964.
Currently, it extends its social security umbrella to approximately 20.04 lakh Insured Persons across 34 districts, with the Surat Sub-Regional Office network serving workers across Surat, Navsari, and Valsad.
Alongside the ESIC hospital, PM Modi also inaugurated the Namo Hospital at Daman.
It is equipped with modern facilities and has been developed to cater to nearly 1,500 OPD patients per day, and will strengthen access to quality healthcare services for the people in the region.
The latest initiatives reflect the government's continued focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure in the Surat and surrounding region while strengthening social security-linked medical services for workers and their families across the country.
