Major Boost to MedTech Innovation: AMTZ MediValley Expands MedTech Hub Backed by NITI Aayog

AIC-AMTZ MediValley aims to help startups develop prototypes within six months and pursue regulatory clearances within 12 months, while providing access to laboratories and testing facilities.

India’s largest MedTech innovation cluster, the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), has announced the expansion of its incubation ecosystem at Visakhapatnam

AIC-AMTZ MediValley unveiled a new 1-lakh-square-foot facility, supported by NITI Aayog. The expanded infrastructure is expected to increase the capacity available to companies working on medical devices and healthcare technologies, aiming to help startups develop prototypes within six months and pursue regulatory clearances within 12 months, while providing access to laboratories and testing facilities.

The development was highlighted during a visit to AMTZ by Dr N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India.

Talking about AMTZ, Dr. Kalaiselvi said, “ A complete ecosystem where innovation, research, manufacturing and entrepreneurship converge. AMTZ is a model that deserves to be replicated across India.”

She interacted with Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ, and visited companies including Pyramed, Molbio Diagnostics, Transasia Bio-Medicals and Electra.

Dr Kalaiselvi also participated in the foundation stone ceremony for SS Medical Systems, which is expanding its indigenous MedTech manufacturing operations.

Its OptiMaser technology has reportedly been deployed at more than 55,000 installations across India.

She also announced that all 37 CSIR laboratories would be open to AMTZ startups for research, technology and innovation support, potentially widening access to national scientific capabilities.

From MedTech Innovation to Commercialization

AIC-AMTZ MediValley, funded under NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission, operates within the AMTZ ecosystem, giving innovators access to scientific, regulatory, manufacturing and trade infrastructure.

For startups, the expansion is significant as product development in MedTech often requires access to specialised testing, regulatory expertise, clinical validation and manufacturing capabilities beyond what a conventional incubator can provide.

AIC-AMTZ MediValley’s location within AMTZ is intended to connect these stages within a single ecosystem. Its existing model provides startups with access to prototyping, testing, product development, validation, funding and commercialisation support.

Dr Jitendra Sharma said, “AMTZ is entering its next decade with a clear focus on accelerating indigenous innovation, strengthening the MedTech value chain and building an Aatmanirbhar, globally competitive MedTech ecosystem for India.”

“Increasing our incubation footprint is not just about adding space; it’s about building capacity for India’s next generation of MedTech leaders. With this expansion, every idea—whether surgical needles, robotics, or AI-driven wearables—can find the right ecosystem to evolve into a global product,” he added.
