Piramal Pharma Takes Majority Control of Yapan Bio in INR 76 Cr Deal
Yapan Bio has moved from being an associate company to a subsidiary of Piramal Pharma, with co-founders Atin Tomar and Nirav Desai holding the remaining stake.
Piramal Pharma, a global pharmaceutical manufacturing company, has completed the acquisition of an additional 40.67% stake in Hyderabad-based CDMO Yapan Bio for INR 76 Cr, taking its ownership to 74% and turning Yapan Bio into a subsidiary.
Piramal Pharma had already held a stake in Yapan Bio since 2021, when the company became part of its broader biologics development and manufacturing network.
Yapan Bio has specialised in process development, characterisation and Phase I and Phase II GMP manufacturing services for vaccines and biologics.
Piramal Pharma’s FY2026 annual report had identified Yapan Bio as a strategic minority investment operating in the biologics, biotherapeutics and vaccine segments.
“This strategic investment doesn't just fuel our long-term growth; it also puts Patient Centricity into action,” said Peter DeYoung, CEO, Piramal Global Pharma. “By integrating Yapan Bio's specialized expertise into our global network, we're empowering our partners to meet a rising global demand for complex biologics and helping patients worldwide secure continued access to the therapies they need.”
The latest transaction involved the purchase of 1.46 lakh equity shares from existing shareholders for an aggregate cash consideration of INR 76 Cr.
Following completion, Yapan Bio has moved from being an associate company to a subsidiary of Piramal Pharma, with co-founders Atin Tomar and Nirav Desai holding the remaining stake.
For Piramal Pharma, the deal is aimed at bringing Yapan Bio’s large-molecule capabilities more closely into Piramal Pharma Solutions, its contract development and manufacturing organisation.
Yapan Bio also supports ADCelerate, PPS’s integrated platform for Phase I antibody-drug conjugate development, which is designed to connect research and development with GMP manufacturing.
The acquisition could therefore strengthen Piramal Pharma’s ability to support ADC programmes alongside its existing biologics and CDMO operations.
