Kerala Gets Major Healthcare Boost As Health Minister Announces Healthcare Project Worth INR 1,800 Cr

The Kerala government has announced a series of healthcare projects worth more than INR 1800 Cr.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George stated that a cluster of high-profile healthcare initiatives will be launched across the state this month. These projects are expected to strengthen both specialised and general medical services for residents.
Key Highlights
Among the key initiatives, an Institute of Organ Transplantation is set to be unveiled in Kozhikode by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It is built on cost of INR 643.88-crore, designed to serve as a Center of Excellence for organ transplant services, including advanced treatment, surgeries, and rehabilitation.
Further, the project aslo include the Cochin Cancer Research Center (CCRC), developed at an estimated cost of INR 387 crore to strengthen cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research facilities in central Kerala, where the public-sector oncology infrastructure has remained limited.
Additionally, as a part of the project, a new eight-storey surgical block with 526 beds is also being added at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital at a cost of about INR 257 crore to enhance surgical capacity and critical care services.
Alongside this, the Regional Cancer Center in Thiruvananthapuram is also planned to be expanded with a 14-storey building costing approximately INR 242.42 crore, aimed at easing space constraints and improving patient care.
The healthcare project further includes the establishment of the International Research Institute of Ayurveda in Kannur on a 300-acre campus, featuring a 100-bed hospital, research facilities, and medicinal plant resources, which is designed to support evidence-based Ayurveda research, along with the second phase of development at the Kerala State Homoeopathic Cooperative Pharmacy facility in Alappuzha to expand its manufacturing capacity.
