India Unveils First Patented Tool for Emotional Wellness Screening

The EWI enables mass screening, allowing simultaneous assessment through digital platforms, and facilitating early detection of emotional distress with timely intervention.

Dr. Sandeep Vohra Renowned Psychiatrist and Founder of the digital mental health platform NWNT.ai, has recently received patent approval for his innovative screening tool, Emotional Wellness Index (EWI).

Claimed to be India’s first patented emotional wellness screening tool, the EWI, which was developed over more than a decade of research in collaboration with the University of Houston, is a 55-point digital scale designed to assess stress and emotional well-being in both students and adults.

Speaking of NWNT’s vision, Dr. Vohra said, “With the Emotional Wellness Index, we aim to transform how emotional health is understood, assessed, and addressed.”

This tool allows institutions, organizations, and governments to identify stress and emotional challenges early, intervene effectively, and foster a culture of proactive mental wellness.

With this tool, Dr. Vohra envisions making emotional wellness accessible, affordable, and stigma-free for everyone, ensuring that mental health is recognized not as a privilege, but as a universal right.

The EWI, further, enables mass screening, allowing simultaneous assessment through digital platforms, and facilitating early detection of emotional distress with timely intervention.

It is designed to be a cost-effective treatment that is easy to access and confidential, helping to reduce the reliance on mental health professionals.

It also provides data-driven insights that help shape mental health policies, wellness programmes, and personalized care strategies.

Reportedly, in India, Dr Vohra and his team have partnered with Manav Rachna University to provide a comprehensive emotional well-being screening using the EWI model, combining it with ongoing support from on-campus counsellors.

Further, the tool is also being used across 20 colleges associated with Pune University, in collaboration with Apollo Telemedicine, to broaden access to mental health among students.
