India, Singapore AI Synergy Seen as Key to Advancing Healthcare Innovation
Singapore’s focused investment in building AI models, combined with India’s vast data set, could support the development of more affordable and globally competitive healthcare technology.
India’s vast healthcare data landscape and Singapore’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities are increasingly viewed as complementary strengths that could accelerate innovation in healthcare technology, according to an executive from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
During the ongoing India AI Impact Summit, Karen Priyadarshini, Vice President and Head of Healthcare, Asia at AWS, said India’s large pool of health data provides a resource that can be paired with Singapore’s initiative on AI model development.
She noted that Singapore’s focused investment in building AI models, combined with India’s vast data set, could support the development of more affordable and globally competitive healthcare technology.
Speaking her thoughts, Priyadarshini said, "Singapore is a small country with a very big AI push, and they have the models that they are building, but they need data to train those models, and that's where India comes in. India has a population of 1.4 billion, and that means that many data points that you have.”
The discussions further explored how technology can help India scale healthcare delivery affordably and enable startups to expand globally.
Describing AI as a “technology leveler” in healthcare, she said, “ It's not that the U.S. is ahead, it's not that China is ahead. We have amazing startups in India because of the scale of population.”
She outlined the potential scope of collaborative research, particularly in areas such as rare diseases, where large datasets are critical for model training and medical breakthroughs, and noted India’s expanding digital health data ecosystem could be leveraged by researchers globally under appropriate frameworks.
Furthermore, Priyadarshini highlighted that hyperscalers such as AWS can support regional innovators in scaling securely and responsibly.
Emphasizing the importance of safeguards and governance as AI adoption accelerates in healthcare, she said, “AI has lots of bandwidth, and it comes with a package of risk as well.”
