IIT Delhi, Wadhwani Foundation Launch CoE in Precision & Personalized Healthcare
The center will use advanced medical research and AI-driven technologies to create affordable and accessible healthcare solutions, with a strong focus on underserved communities.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, in collaboration with the Wadhwani Foundation, has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Precision & Personalized Healthcare under the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN).
The center, located at IIT Delhi’s Research and Innovation Park, is built to fast-track healthcare innovations from laboratories into real-world use.
This launch is part of the ₹1,400-crore national innovation investment announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Yugm Innovation Conclave earlier this year.
The centre will use advanced medical research and AI-driven technologies to create affordable and accessible healthcare solutions, with a strong focus on underserved communities.
Dr. Ajay Kela, CEO & Board Member of the Wadhwani Foundation, described the center as a milestone in accessible innovation. “India’s deep reservoir of scientific talent is unmatched, but the journey from research lab to societal impact has been far too slow. With the WIN Centre at IIT Delhi, we are bridging that gap—creating a launchpad for healthcare innovations that can scale rapidly and save lives. This is part of our broader commitment to invest over ₹1,400 crore with our partners to make India a global leader in research commercialization.”
Key Areas of Focus
In its initial phase, the centre will concentrate on five areas: personalized medicine, bio-imaging and AI diagnostics, assistive technologies for the elderly and differently-abled, affordable implants and wearables, and innovative diagnostic tools.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between research and patient care by bringing together expertise from academia, industry, and government.
The goal is to move beyond prototypes and deliver scalable technologies that can make a measurable impact on healthcare delivery.
“Through the WIN Centre, IIT Delhi will channelise its expertise in biomedical technologies, AI, and engineering towards delivering tangible healthcare innovations—from precision diagnostics and personalized treatments to affordable medical devices. Our goal is to create solutions that not only address India’s healthcare challenges but also set new benchmarks for global impact,” mentioned Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director at IIT Delhi.
Dr. Shirshendu Mukherjee, Managing Director of WIN at Wadhwani Foundation, added, “This center will not only nurture cutting-edge R&D but also provide innovators with mentorship, market access, and commercialization pathways. By bringing together multidisciplinary expertise, we aim to accelerate breakthroughs in precision and personalized healthcare that will benefit millions.”
“The WIN Centre is designed to be a collaborative space where scientists, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and industry experts can co-create. We envision it as a hub that transforms bold ideas into viable healthcare products and technologies,” said Prof. Neetu Singh, Professor-in-Charge of the WIN CoE at IIT Delhi.
